In order to send their message of a new, more affordable kind of service to their customers, Wind Mobile has rebranded itself as Freedom Mobile. Freedom Mobile CEO, Alek Krstajic stressed the company’s new pledge to deliver “value, transparency, and fairness” to the customer base of over one million Canadians. This rebranding is meant to have a new, fresh look and be a little more welcome and friendly towards customers. While many wireless companies have the stigma of being hard to deal with, Freedom Mobile strives to be “for the people” and put customers’ needs first. In fact, the new name comes from the goal for “freedom to connect and communicate” and “freedom from excessive and unfair prices”.
While plans start at as little as $45 a month, this isn’t a bargain service with limited options. An advanced LTE service has been extended to Toronto and Vancouver, with plans to continue this service in other locations over the next year. Calgary, Ottawa, and Edmonton will have LTE service by Summer 2017. In later months, Southwestern Ontario, Kingston, Barrie, Peterborough, and the Hamilton-Niagara corridor will join the LTE network. Maps of the coverage area and projected service dates can be found on the Freedom Mobile website. Of course, 3G coverage will still be available in other areas during the expansion.
This means that data speeds will be faster than ever. Whether you’re browsing, downloading, or streaming on your phone, you’ll be able to do it all so much faster than before. This is part of Freedom Mobile’s plan to give the user a better mobile experience. Along with the new network, new wireless devices that are compatible with LTE will be featured in stores. The LG V20 and ZTE Grand X 4 are first in stores, while more devices will be added immediately to give the customer a range of devices to enjoy the new network on. Gone are the days of long download wait times, buffering while streaming music or video, or having to refresh the browser, just to surf the web. In a technologically advanced world with the newest and best devices available, the company has recognized the need for service that supports these devices.
Existing Wind Mobile customers don’t need to worry about the change. Apart from the new name and branding, customers may not notice the change and certainly won’t be inconvenienced by it. While rebranding will take place immediately, the current services will be transitioned smoothly to the new services. While some changes in rates and types of services may occur, the customer will not be responsible for switching service to Freedom Mobile—the company will take care of that for you! All pre-authorized payments will continue as normal.
Plans are affordable at as little as $45 a month and cover all of the essentials. This basic plan includes unlimited calls to anywhere in Canada and the US, unlimited international messaging within the network, and 3GB of monthly data. If 3GB isn’t enough, an extra 3 GB of data can be added through January 2018. All of this service for only $45 a month makes it the most affordable wireless plan in the country.
Freedom Mobile celebrated their new brand by being a sponsor of the 104th Grey Cup and hosting the Freedom Mobile Halftime Show, featuring the band, One Republic. The company sends a strong message to their customers that they appreciate their continued patronage through the changeover and are expressing their gratitude by providing a higher quality of wireless service with competitive pricing.
