PayPal Passkeys are now available for Android devices as the digital payment platform improves its security features, a move that PayPal hopes will result in the decline of phishing incidents attacking user accounts.

A PayPal Passkey allows users to log in to their accounts without a password, making transactions more secure and effortless. This move follows the company’s rollout of the same feature to iOS devices last year.

Paypal said that passwords will still be working, but it reminded its users that with the introduction of PayPal Passkeys, they can take the next step toward a passwordless future.

This latest innovation is in compliance with the standards set by the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium which envisions getting rid of passwords by replacing them with cryptographic key pairs and digital credentials instead. This includes fingerprint, biometric sensors, a PIN or a pattern, or facial recognition.

PayPal Passkeys in a Nutshell

PayPal Passkeys are a form of digital ID that enables password-free access to your PayPal account. You can use Passkeys to sign in to PayPal on any device once you have enabled them for your account.

When logging in, you will be required to use the biometric function of your phone to confirm your identity either through your web browser or through the app. Because of this, it is required that a smartphone should have a biometric identification function such as fingerprint and facial recognition to utilize Passkeys better. With this feature, you can be sure nobody else can access your PayPal account.

Benefits of Using PayPal Passkeys

The primary benefit of using a PayPal Passkey is the enhanced security eliminating the need to remember a password. This eliminates the risk of someone else guessing or stealing it. A biometric authentication is required for passkeys, adding an additional layer of protection.

Passkeys will now simplify transactions and create a hassle-free shopping experience. This feature saves time and eliminates the frustration of having to remember a password, especially if you have multiple online accounts, which might create a risk of you forgetting it.

Compatibility With Android Devices

The new PayPal Passkeys feature on Android is compatible with devices running on Android 9 versions and higher. It can be accessed through the PayPal app or on the PayPal website using the Google Chrome browser or any other browser.

To use Passkeys on Android devices, users must first download and install the latest version of the PayPal app or update their existing versions from the Google Play Store.

How to Set Up PayPal Passkey on Android?

Setting up your PayPal Passkeys is simple and straightforward. You must log in to your PayPal account on your Chrome browser. Input your existing credentials, such as your username and password. A prompt about creating a passkey will appear on your screen upon logging in. By then, you will be asked to authenticate your identity. After authentication, it will automatically create your Passkey.

You will then be redirected to the PayPal home screen. You can begin using your PayPal Passkey as you start to access any passkey-enabled platform.

Secure Online Transactions

As the world is leaning towards digital markets, PayPal’s innovation is a secure way to transact online. The compatibility of Passkeys with Android devices means that more users can now enjoy the benefits of effortless and secure transactions.
