Witness Django as he takes revenge on the oppressive society that stripped him of his freedom. Find out where to watch “Django Unchained” in Canada.

What Is Django Unchained About?

“Django Unchained” presents themes of racism, revenge, and justice through Quentin Tarantino’s signature style of graphic violence, quotable dialogues, and unconventional storytelling. Set in America before the Civil War, the film follows Django, a slave who was unexpectedly freed by a German bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz. In exchange for his freedom, Schultz asked for Django’s assistance in identifying the Brittle brothers, a trio of criminals Schultz was looking for.

After successfully capturing the Brittles, Django expresses his desire to find and rescue his wife Broomhilda von Shaft, who was sold to a plantation owner named Calvin Candie. Django’s skills and determination impress Schultz and agrees to help him.

Together, Schultz and Django devise a plan to pose as wealthy buyers interested in a Mandingo fighting slave. Their goal is to travel to Candyland, Candie’s plantation site, get close to him, and negotiate for Broomhilda’s freedom. However, their plan gets endangered when Stephen, Candie’s loyal yet shrewd slave, starts suspecting their motives. The tension between the characters arises as the plan gets more complicated, culminating in a violent and climactic showdown at Candyland.

“Django Unchained” hit theaters on December 25, 2012.
