The previous seasons of Lupin are available in Canada. So read on to know where you can revisit the origins of Assane Diop before the new season premieres.

What Is Lupin About?

“Lupin” centers around its protagonist, Assane Diop, who is a professional gentleman thief. Assane is the son of an immigrant from Senegal who moved to France to seek greener pastures for his child. To provide for Assane, his father worked as a chauffeur for the wealthy Pellegrini family in Paris. When the Pellegrini family falsely accused Assane’s father of stealing a piece of jewelry that once belonged to Marie Antoinette, he took his own life in prison and left Assane orphaned as a teenager. 25 years after his father’s death, Assane finds motivation from the fictional gentleman thief Arsène Lupin from Maurice Leblanc’s classic story, “The Arrest of Arsène Lupin.” The classic character inspired Assane to master the art of thievery and disguise to seek revenge against the Pellegrini family.

The first season of “Lupin” was released on Netflix in January 2021 with five episodes and has been running for two seasons. Netflix recently announced that the third season of the show will arrive on the platform on October 5 of this year.

Who Are in the Cast and Production of Lupin?

Screenwriters George Kay and Francois Uzan created and wrote “Lupin.” French filmmaker Louis Leterrier, who is also known for his work in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, directed the series. The cast of Lupin also features a group of brilliant French actors, including:

  • Omar Sy as Assane Diop
  • Ludivine Sagnier as Claire
  • Clotilde Hesme as Juliette Pellegrini
  • Nicole Garcia as Anne Pellegrini
  • Hervé Pierre as Hubert Pellegrini
  • Antoine Gouy as Benjamin Ferel
  • Fargass Assandé as Babakar Diop
  • Soufiane Guerrab as Youssef Guédira
  • Vincent Londez as Captain Romain Laugier
  • Shirine Boutella as Lieutenant Sofia Belkacem
  • Vincent Garanger as Gabriel Dumont
  • Etan Simon as Raoul

What is the Rating for Lupin?

“Lupin” is rated TV-MA in Canada, which suggests that the show is suitable for mature audiences only as it contains mild to moderate depictions of language, violence, gore, and suggestive sexual content.

How Many People Watch the Lupin?

76 million global households watched “Lupin” in its first month of release, making it the third most-watched series premiere in 2021 next to “Bridgerton” and “The Witcher.”

How Are the Reviews for Lupin?

Critics and viewers alike received the show with positive reviews because of its unique, modern take on the classic fictional character Lupin and its high-quality production values. Critics also commended Omar Sy’s smooth portrayal as the gentleman thief. “Lupin” received a score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, 81/100 on Metacritic, and 7.5/10 on IMDb. Here’s what critics say about the series:

  • “Lupin” is as patient as it is smart, and its plot twists like melted railroad tracks. And yet the narrative train, through some tight savvy editing, always exits on the other side of the tunnel. … “Lupin” is not only totally addictive, it’s the first great television show of 2021,” RogerEbert.com said.
  • “Lupin’s cliches are irresistibly seductive. This is a show that takes us to Paris, pours us champagne, plays us old chansons and winks as it offers us diamonds,” The Telegraph said.
