What is Missing About?
“Missing” is the sequel to the 2018 film “Searching,” though it can be watched on its own. The film starts with the introduction of the protagonist, June Allen, a six-year-old who loses her father, James, to a brain tumor. In the present timeline, Grace has met someone else, a boyfriend named Kevin, and is planning to go on a week-long trip with him to Colombia. June is left home alone with Heather, her mother’s friend, who June notices to be in a foul mood about Grace and Kevin’s relaticonship. When the couple doesn’t return on their designated return date, June launches an investigation. She hires Javier, a Colombian man, to aid her in her search. She’s thrown for a loop when her prime suspect, Heather, turns up murdered. Her search leads her to Jimmy, a pastor at an ex-convict rehabilitation center. However, she’s thrown for another loop when Jimmy reveals that he is actually James, her supposed-to-be-deceased dad. He was an abusive drug user who Grace wanted out of their lives, and he enlists fellow ex-convict Kevin’s help to find his daughter and wife. With this part of his plan accomplished, he manages to kidnap June and Grace, but the two escape after an intense battle for their freedom. The film ends with the two living their lives well a year later.
“Missing” was released in early 2023 and has a running time of 111 minutes.
