What is Mission: Impossible – Fallout About?
“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” is the sixth film of the Mission: Impossible franchise, following another one of Ethan Hunt’s nail-biting and risky quests. In this installment, Ethan and his team try to regain stolen plutonium, which is suspected to be in the hands of the shady organization the Syndicate, with the involvement of an unheard-of extremist group named the Apostles. Turns out the latter is only a reorganized version of the Syndicate, which fell apart after the capture of their previous leader, Solomon Lane. When their initial plan to take back the plutonium cores in Berlin falls through, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director Erika Sloane has Agent August Walker, played by Henry Cavill, accompany the IMF team on their future missions. Through some investigating, they find out that a man named John Lark employed the Apostles to steal the three plutonium cores that are to be turned into nuclear bombs. The team tracks down Lark, only for IMF Secretary Alan Hunley to inform Ethan that the agency received documents implying he is Lark. They then realize that it is Agent Walker who is the real John Lark. He turned his back on the government after being mistreated by it on several occasions. Ethan calls for backup to take Agent Walker/John Lark away, but unknown to the IMF team, the extracting unit was already infiltrated by the Apostles, setting him free. In an attempt to lure the Syndicate/the Apostles, they use Lane as bait. However, Lane and John team up to stop the team from ruining their plans.
The IMF team’s search for the plutonium cores and the two antagonists leads them to Siachen Glacier, where a medical camp providing water to India, Pakistan, and China lies. The cores end up being in the camp, and the team manages to defuse them just in time. John Lark ends up dead in the ice after a chilling fight with Ethan on a helicopter. Meanwhile, Lane goes back behind bars.
“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” was released in 2018, preceded by “Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation.”
