Witness a woman fight back against her ex-boyfriend who terrorizes her and find out where you can watch “The Invisible Man” in Canada.

What Is The Invisible Man About?

“The Invisible Man” is a sci-fi horror remake of James Whale’s 1933 horror film based on H.G. Wells’s novel of the same name. The slick slasher flick reworks elements of the original to craft a unique and modern take on H.G. Wells’s seminal novel. The film removes the focus from its titular villain and follows the harrowing experiences of his victim.

The Emmy-winning Elizabeth Moss stars as Cecilia Kass, a tormented woman trapped in an abusive relationship with a wealthy inventor. Cecilia decides to escape and break free from her boyfriend’s clutches. Days later, Cecilia learns that her ex has committed suicide following her escape. Despite her freedom, Cecilia’s former partner looms over her and continues to haunt her. Soon enough, Cecilia begins to experience a series of disturbing encounters with an unseen figure. The paranoid Cecilia slowly realizes that her ex was right by her side this whole time.

“The Invisible Man” premiered in U.S. theaters on February 28, 2020. The film premiered earlier on VOD platforms amid the increasing COVID-19 restrictions. “The Invisible Man” has a 124-minute runtime.

Who Are in the Cast and Production of The Invisible Man?

Leigh Whannel of the “Saw” films and the “Insidious” franchise wrote and directed the modern adaptation of The Invisible Man’s story. Blumhouse Productions collaborated with Goalpost Pictures and Nervous Tick Productions to bring Whannel’s vision to the big screen. Universal Pictures, on the other hand, acted as the film’s distributor. “The Invisible Man” features a star-studded cast composed of:

  • Elizabeth Moss as Cecilia Kass
  • Aldis Hodge as Detective James Lanier
  • Storm Reid as Sydney Lanier
  • Harriet Dyer as Emily Kass
  • Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Adrian Griffin / the Invisible Man
  • Michael Dorman as Tom Griffin

What is the Rating for The Invisible Man?

“The Invisible Man” is rated 18A in Canada. The film depicts several tense and bloody sequences where characters are beaten, stabbed, or killed. The movie also features adult-oriented themes concerning suicide and domestic abuse. Viewers younger than 18 years old are restricted from viewing the film.

How Many People Watch The Invisible Man?

“The Invisible Man” was a commercial hit despite the prevailing health restrictions of the time. It debuted with $28.2 million during its opening week. Whannel’s sci-fi reimagining of H.G. Wells’s novel grossed a world box office of $144.5 million.

How Are the Reviews for The Invisible Man?

Critics and fans of the original film and novel loved “The Invisible Man.” Critics praised the movie for updating the original story and reframing it within a modern setting, with new and inventive scares, and excellent use of contemporary issues. Elizabeth Moss’s empathetic yet powerful performance was praised for making her character more than a mere damsel in distress.

“The Invisible Man” received a 71. rating from IMDb, a 72% score from Metacritic, and a certified fresh 92% score from Rotten Tomatoes. Find out how “The Invisible Man” crept its way into the hearts of critics:

  • “This gratifyingly clever and, at times, powerfully staged thriller is too rooted in our era to be called old-fashioned — its release, in fact, feels almost karmically synched to the week of the Harvey Weinstein verdict. Yet there’s one way that the movie is old-fashioned: It does an admirable job of taking us back to a time when a horror film could actually mean something.” – Owen Gleiberman of Variety
  • “Moss continues to deliver what we crave from woman characters: the kind of messy yet sturdy intricacy many of today’s thinly conceived you-go-girl female superheroes continue to lack.” – Tomris Laffly of RogerEbert.com
