What is The Meg About?
“The Meg” starts with a rescue diver named Jonas Taylor who spots an unidentified sea creature during one of his dives. However, his concerns are dismissed, which eventually leads to brutal consequences. Five years later after his alleged sighting of said sea creature, an underwater research facility, Mana One, launches a mission to explore a previously unexplored depth in the Mariana Trench. When the team loses contact with a submersible they released to explore their surroundings, they recruit Taylor to attempt a rescue, and he agrees since his ex-wife, Lori, is involved in the research. Taylor proceeds with his mission, which is proven to be difficult as the submersible gets attacked by a giant shark – they later on discover that this is a megalodon, a species of shark that was believed to have been extinct. The team then goes on a new mission to kill the dangerous creature, getting injured and losing friends along the way. They successfully kill two of the megalodons, however the film ends with an implication that there are more megalodons that managed to escape the trench.
“The Meg” was released in 2018 and has been followed up by a sequel, “Meg 2: The Trench,” released in August 2023.
