What is Twilight About?
“Twilight” is the first film of the Twilight Saga, starting off the story of the clumsy and awkward Isabella Swan, Bella for short. When her mother remarries, she chooses to give her and her new husband some space by moving from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, to cold Forks, Washington, with her father, Charlie. She starts over at Forks, making new friendships and rekindling her old one with her childhood friend Jacob, going to a new school, and living in a new home with her awkward but endearing and protective dad. At Forks High School, she forms a fascination with the Cullens, who are known to be an adoptive family with excessively good looks and wealth. They are also known for not mingling with a lot of people, so it baffles everyone when Edward, the youngest Cullen, seems to take interest in Bella – only after he gives her a disgusted look the first time they meet, leading her to think he didn’t like her. They then navigate their newfound friendship, with Bella trying hard to figure out what Edward really is when she almost gets hit by a truck and he magically appears right beside her to push it away. She then realizes that he’s a vampire, and so are the rest of his family, though they only feed on animals and never humans.
Their relationship evolves from there as they fall for each other quickly and deeply, and the Cullens, for the most part, accept Bella with a hesitant but warm welcome. However, when they take her to a baseball game and meet a clan of human-drinking vampires comprised of James, Laurent, and Victoria, she ends up with a target on her back because of how sweet her blood tastes. While the dangerous clan hunts her down, the Cullens make sure to protect her.
“Twilight” was released in 2008, based on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight book series.
