Hulu is not available in Canada.

However, if you have a Hulu account and are trying to access it while outside of the geo restricted areas it’s available in, you can use a VPN.

1. Connect your VPN to an accepted server
2. Login to Hulu on your device of choice
3. Start bingeing your favourite movies and TV shows

Hulu is majority owned by Disney however the introduction of Disney Plus to Canada did not bring Hulu along.

Chairman and CEO of Disney at that time did provide some details in a conference call that took place on February 4th, 2020, stating that their focus was to launch Disney Plus in international markets for now, after which they will aim to start launching Hulu in international markets in 2021.

No further details were provided, however it is clear that Disney is focused on expanding Disney Plus at the moment, not Hulu.

We’ve compiled a comprehensive list of all the free and paid streaming services available to Canadians which you can check out in the mean time.

Why Can’t I Watch Hulu in Canada?

Unfortunately for Canadians, Hulu has regional locks on their content library.

That regional lock means no-one outside the US can view anything on Hulu.

All the digital content on Hulu.com has this streaming restriction, and if you’re in any other country, you’ll have to find an alternative to Hulu for your evening entertainment.

Hulu.com utilizes an ‘IP identification’ process to block you from accessing the platform.

The ‘IP-ID’ determines your geographical location, and if you’re IP is from outside the United States, it rejects your request.

What Are The Alternatives to Hulu?

Since Hulu won’t let Canadians watch content on its platform, and if you are not interested in using a VPN or proxy, what alternatives do we have?

We recommend going with the following options for your streaming needs.

Netflix: Stream original content and some of your favourite older movies and series on this platform.

Netflix is the global leader in streaming, and you have three package options of $9.99 (SD only) / $14.99 (HD) / $18.99 (4K). However, Netflix Canada limits its content options, and you don’t get the same variety as you do with the American version.

Amazon Prime: Amazon Prime is another great alternative to Hulu.

We think it has a good offering of top-quality movies, series, and TV shows, with original and licensed content.

Amazon Prime offers you the service for $7.99 per month, or pay upfront for a year at CAN$79.

Disney Plus: The launch of Disney Plus saw the platform skyrocket in subscriber volumes in the first few months of its release.

Disney Plus offers you top-quality entertainment from the leading Hollywood production companies.

Marvel Studios and the Star Wars franchise are all onboard with Disney, and you can bet this platform will have some of the best animation and fantasy content online.

Disney Plus is available for a monthly subscription cost of $8.99, or take an annual package with an $89 upfront payment.

Will Hulu be Coming to Canada?

Yes, Disney+ recently introduced a new offering that includes limited Hulu shows and movies, as a large amount of original content is still spread across various providers such as Crave and Amazon Prime.

What Are The Best Shows and Movies on Hulu Canada?

Hulu has a very wide variety of shows and movies that are very popular amongst viewers, so it’s no surprise Canadians are interested in watching Hulu in Canada.

Some of the top TV shows and movies offered by Hulu include:

  • Bob’s Burgers
  • Seinfeld
  • Veronica Mars
  • Malcolm X
  • Gretel and Hansel

This is just a small set of examples, as Hulu has over 1,500 shows and more than 2,500 films available to its users, so it’s safe to say there is something for everyone!
